Peachland & Area
Peachland was founded in 1889 and incorporated January 1, 1909. It is located in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada. The town is on the shore of Okanagan lake just a 20 minute drive south of Kelowna.
The area has a semi-arid desert climate with over 2,000 hours of sunshine. Average temperature in July is 76 F or 24 C; in January it's 29 F or 1.6 C. Average precipitation is 9.5 inches or 24 cm annually.
Peachland's downtown core is located along Beach Avenue which follows the shoreline with spectacular parks and access to the lake.
Peachland is Ogopogo's hometown! While all the communities on Okanagan Lake lay claim to this famous watery beast, “Nihaiaiitk,” or lake demon, as the First Nations once called it, is said to live near Peachland in the caves of Squally Point.
Primarily a retirement and bedroom community, Peachland's economy is sustained mainly by tourism and local services. The economic base is diversified, not dependent on any one industry. Local retailers, wineries, golf course and home based businesses make up the majority of Peachland's employers.
